Wizardry Online Permadeath

- IIRC, there was one fairly recent MMO that had perma-death called Wizardry Online. I don't know how much it differed from the original PC game, but I assume it had to do with the chance for your corpse being turned to dust when attempting to resurrect.
Sadly, I didn't get the chance to play, as the US version closed down less than a year after launch.
The idea sounds intriguing, and it's alot of fun playing Diablo 3 hardcore, but I don't know if an MMO offering perma-death would be as popular now among the new generation of gamers.'If a person is truly desirous of something, perhaps being set on fire does not seem so bad.' - @Ace_of_Destiny
The developers of this game are pretty fond of Diablo 3, so a perma-death option is feasible.
That being said, at end game there are quite a few one-shot mechanics and I don't think that dying to one of those, which can be largely chance based, really constitutes the challenge that you seek.Don't tank
'In future content we will probably adjust this model somewhat (The BOP model). It's definitely nice to be able to find a cool item that you don't need and trade it to someone who can't wait to get their hands on it.' - Wrobel - I would be worried the coders @Zenimax would mess stuff up and add random 'perma death flags' to my main characters..
- My wife's uncle plays hardcore mode no matter what game it is (currently he plays WoW), and whenever he dies he just straight up rerolls the character and starts again. Doesn't matter if he's level 11 or 81. I don't mind perma-death but that still boggles my mind somehow.
- whats stopping you guys from just logging off and deleting the character if you die?PS4 NA

http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/246134/request-dyeable-tail-ribbons - I've wanted to try this out but I haven't built up the courage to do so. See, yea.. that's just hard core man.. hard core. What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.
That's right.. Horse.

New player enters game with permadeath enabled, is doing completely fine and gets to Molag Bal, suddenly falls through the floor and dies. Game over.
Yes this is a great idea with all the fatal glitches and bugs in this game.. Have fun with that.Guildmaster of Power With Numbers in PS4 NA Server's Aldmeri Dominion.

Also, a 'hardcore mode' is not really a feature Zeni would add. Sadly(?), Casuals are the main profit source they got, right now.
*laughs* 'casuals'. - Rogue-like feature. Upon death you are logged out of your character and it gets deleted from the server. I can see how this could work
- I come from 'Ye Olden Days' when 'more challenge = more fun'.
So, this is just something I wish many/more/ESO games offered..
Perma-Death
I wish there was an OPTION to mark a newly created character as 'Perma-Death Enabled'.
Runescape basically has this option in the form of Ironman mode, where you can enable it at character creation.'Ironman Mode and Hardcore Ironman Mode are account-types, accessible only via a dropdown menu on the character creation screen, that encourage the player to be entirely self-sufficient. Both types of Ironman mode are locked out of most forms of interactions with other players such as trading, the Grand Exchange, most group minigames, PvP, and almost all other group activities.
..
Hardcore players have the added challenge of only having one 'life'. As soon as they die, their account is permanently locked, unless they have purchased the Jar of divine light. If they have done so, the item will be activated upon death from either the player's bank or the inventory and will convert the account into a regular Ironman account.'

ESO seems to copy things directly from other MMO's anyway, so I support this addition. - Why not just if you get killed that you deleted your character ? Works the same way

From what I heard, one could increase chances of successful resurrection by sacrificing items or paying with real currency, hence my earlier joke about scrolls in the cash shop. The game is/was just pretending to be hardcore; what it delivers is in fact one of the most brutal P2W schemes (i.e. threatening to kill one's character for good unles he pays, see reward removal).Offline.
Do not click. You have been warned. - I'd support a permadeath feature if there's a graveyard feature implemented too. That way, I can go and reflect at my former self's sad grave(s), reminding myself that yes, mudcrabs can kill you if you happened to have 999+ lag at that time.Yngvar Krilvahlok - L50 Nord EP Dragonknight - Tank

- The problem with permadeath is and always will be the 'surprise death'. Be it through lag spike, router hiccup disconnect, gamefreeze, power outage, RL interrupt, finger fumble during that bossfight, or the PvP gank.. it only creates annoyance and vexation. And vexed players are more likely then not to leave and find a game which doesn't make them feel bad..
But hey, noone is keeping you from deleting your character the first time you die and starting anew!
Or being one-shotted by some skeleton. If there was to be a perma-death option, I would prefer if they did what they did in Borderlands 2 insofar that you couldn't get one-shotted. You lost all but a slither of life regardless of the damage you received. You have a very slight time delay to get the hell out of harms way. - it worked in Diablo 3 for me. It bought a new challenge. After you have re-run content again and again. its nice to have a 1 life mode. You really concentrate and try hard.
But i don't think it would work for ESO. Its not that sort of game imoPSN - WarpPigeon - Guild: TheSyndicate - EU, Ebonheart Pact - This has already been implemented. All you have to do is delete your character after you die, problem solved. Transfer items to your bank first of course, lol.

I wish this comment WASN'T completely ***. - I to hail from the ye ole days, and perma death was never a good idea, to many other factors that can cause you lose your toon, like internet going out in the middle of a fight, game crashes, cheaters with lag switches, and I am sure I can think of a few more, plus todays players with the hurry up to max level and the self entitlement I see riddled in the forums of most games these days throw the instant gratification generation in there and perma death would just not fly in this day and age only a handful of people would like the risk and it takes more than a handful to keep these games going.Edited by kevlarto_ESO on September 14, 2015 12:32PM

That's a great point. I died earlier this week because my character stopped responding to my commands. I could run around but that was it. Happened in a public dungeon so there was about eight enemies. Tried running.. Right into six more enemies. So, yeah 14 enemies and can't even block. At least it was quick.
People even ask for this in Minecraft. Imagine spending months on a world, building a whole city, and it's gone because a Creeper duo drops on your head in a chasm. Yes, that's a true story. Lost a set of brand new enchanted armor and a soft touch pick. Is that not punishment enough?
I just don't get the attraction of it. What sort of person seeks out more stress than life is already providing? I'd play in such a risk adverse manner I'd never do anything fun or crazy. - it worked in Diablo 3 for me. It bought a new challenge. I tried it in Diablo 3 as well. It's not a challenge. It's stress. Why do I need that? I can get that at work in heaping quantities. Got through the first chapter, but stopped.
I can sort of see it as something you do after you've wrung all other fun out of a game, I suppose. Just not my thing. I'd rather move on to a new game at that point. - Why not just if you get killed that you deleted your character ? Works the same way
Can't email gear to yourself. - First thing I thought of when I read this idea was the post-IC patch falling from the sky upon logging on. I died maybe 10 times in a week just logging on to characters in Belkarth. Then I thought about disconnects. And when the DK wings animation doesn't complete and I can't do anything until I reloadui.
The best reason not to implement this is to not have to field requests to revive characters that perma-died due to bugs or disconnects.
If not for the very likely scenario of players rage-quitting because ZOS won't revive a character that died due to a bug, I would think this is a fun idea. There could be some really cool achievements.
