I don't know for sure, but i've never seen it used before that.There may have been others, but I just wanted to show some of the people who thought this movie was stupid, that it was pretty groundbreaking for it's time. When I think back to 1983, the only japanese martial arts movies that come to mind, are those from 'Kung Fu Theater', which went way beyond any type of marketable audience for the USA.
Revenge of the Ninja was one of the first to bridge that gap.
